Treatment for R/R MCL is complicated, as the disease typically presents in elderly, unfit patients; however, emerging targeted therapy options have shown great promise based on excellent results in clinical trials. In this activity, a taped version of the live symposium at the 17th Annual International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma, expert faculty present therapeutic options, established by evidence-based practice guidelines, for patients with R/R MCL. Symposium learners voted on patient demographics and parameters such as treatment, dosing frequency, and adverse events. The experts crafted their lecture to follow thheir suggestions allowing the case studies to reflect the patients the learners see. The activity concludes with a discussion on engagement between healthcare providers and patients to improve clinical outcomes.

Mats Jerkeman is Professor in Clinical Oncology at Lund University, Sweden. He is currently Chairman of the Nordic Lymphoma Group and the National Guidelines for Lymphoma, Sweden. His research focuses on improving the quality of life and survival of patients with malignant lymphomas, through design of innovative clinical trials and clinical epidemiology studies.

He is Coordinating investigator of several ongoing clinical trials in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma, and has also served as coordinator of the Swedish Lymphoma Register for many years. He is Editor of the European Society of Medical Oncology Lymphoma Guidelines, and member of the Scientific Program Committee of the European Hematology Association. He has more than 160 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Christiane Pott, MD

Prof. Christiane Pott is Deputy Director of the Second Department of Medicine, Hematology and Oncology at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, Germany. She became a full Professor for Clinical-Experimental Hematology at Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel in 2016 and is head of the lymphoma center.

Her scientific focus is the development of molecular genetic methods for the detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) and biologic characterization of malignant lymphomas. She is coordinatinmg the scientific program for a large number of clinical trials.

Professor Pott has been a leading member of the European BIOMED2 consortium for molecular diagnostics in lymphomas and leukemias and coordinates several national and international studies for MRD detection in malignant lymphomas (GLA, EU-MCL network) and is the coordinator of the workpackage "Minimal Residual disease detection in MCL" within the European MCL Research Network. In 2010, Professor Pott was awarded the “Hans-Jochen-Illiger Gedächtnispreis“ for clinical oncology. She is a board member of the Euroclonality NGS network, a subgroup of ESHLO, since 2015. As head of the study center at the Medical Department II, she is leading several clinical trials for lymphoma and CLL patients as principal investigator. Since 2019 she is responsible for the CAR-T cell program of the university.

Professor Pott is a member of the German Society of Internal Medicine, the German Society of Hematology and Oncology (DGHO) and the German AIDS – Society and board member of the German Lymphoma Alliance (GLA). Professor Pott has authored numerous publications in international journals and is a reviewer for Leukemia, Leukemia and Lymphoma, British Journal of Haematology, Blood, Haematologica and Lancet Oncology.

Carlo Visco has been associate professor of Hematology at the Department of Medicine, University of Verona, since 2019. Previously, he has been consultant at the Department of Hematology and Cell Therapy, Vicenza, Italy, since 2002. He graduated in 1998 at the University of Verona, Italy, where he completed residency training in Hematology in 2002.

He has been post-doctoral research fellow at the Lymphoma Department, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA in 2000-2001. In 2010 he was honorable visiting physician at the Department of Pathology, University of Wisconsin, USA. In 2013 he was awarded as young investigator publishing the best high impact clinical paper of 2013.

He is currently taking part to the conception, design and conduction of clinical trials in aggressive lymphomas, as witnessed by his academic publications. Prof Visco is an active member of the European society of hematology (EHA), of the European Mantle Cell Lymphoma Network (EMCLN) and of the Italian Lymphoma Foundation (FIL), where he is part of the presidential board, and head of the aggressive lymphoma committee.
